Merlion Secondary School philosophy focuses on the power of education in finding one’s career path. Preparing students for their Pre-University life is carefully done to ensure academic and social success. We conceive social and leadership skills to be a major part of this preparation, exposing our students to different atmosphere and challenges, stimulating their competencies both in and out of the classroom.

CURRICULUM
Merlion School’s Secondary Level aims to cultivate the “independent learner” so that every student is able to take responsibility for his or her own learning as guided by our curriculum modelled after the Cambridge University’s IGCSE Programme.

To support this objective, we...
(i) equip students with thinking, information-handling, analytical research and decision-making skills.
(ii) teach the students how to manage their revisions and how to properly handle tests and examinations.
(iii) provide students with a basis by which to be discerning in their life choices.
(iv) accustom the students to the idea of quality work.
(v) nurture the reading habit and curiosity for knowledge.
(vi) build a strong moral and character foundation.
The school aims to provide to students a diverse education in a safe and supportive environment, promotes sound values, self-discipline, motivation and excellence in learning and assist the students in developing skills to become independent and self-sufficient adults who will succeed and contribute responsibly in a global community. The Secondary School curriculum consists of English, Mathematics, Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Chinese,History, Information & Communication Technology (ICT), Art and Design, Bahasa Indonesia Studies, Geography, Business Studies, Physical Education, Music, PKN and Agama (Catholic, Christian, Buddhist and Islam). At the end of Secondary, the students will sit for International General Certificate for Secondary Education (IGCSE).
PROGRAMMES
ASSEMBLY
Secondary School holds an assembly every morning before the start of the school day, from 7.00am to 7.30am. During the Assembly, students have a silent reading session for 15 minutes, followed by the singing of the national anthemn, the school song, reciting of our school’s vision, mission and pledge, and a silent prayer. Merlion School introduces the students to different activities, as seen below:

Secondary School holds a number of events throughout the year. During this time, students are encouraged to showcase their talents, skills and creativity through different performances and activities.

Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) provides the opportunity for students to explore diverse interests, to discover the passion of building confidence and self-esteem among students. FIELD TRIPS /
LEARNING JOURNEYS
Merlion School takes learning both in and out of the classroom seriously. With that in mind, Secondary School focuses not only in developing students during lessons, but also beyond with field trips and learning journeys. Every class joins a field trip within Surabaya throughout the academic year, in order to support their theoretical learning within the classroom.

Students also learn how to become responsible citizens and socialize in a setting away from home and from the guidance of the parents, which is essential for their development. The school ensures students' safety during field trips and learning journeys, with a number of teachers joining in order to guide the students. ACHIEVEMENTS
FACILITES
Secondary School consists of a set of areas to facilitate students’ learning, growth, and safety. These include a computer room, a science lab, an arts room, a music room, a library, a gymnasium, a performance hall and a clinic. Swimming and athletics lessons are conducted in an outside venue to ensure that students gain exposure to various activities.
LIFE SKILLS
Life skills is a programme which starts in Primary 4 and continues until Pre-University. This programme aims to equip children with important life skills that which typically are no longer included in school curriculum.

International

Secondary School holds its yearly international immersion programme for our Secondary 4 students. Through this programme, students will explore their curiosity by learning the culture and practices of other schools outside of Indonesia. The students have the opportunity to build friendships and connections with the students of our partner schools. |
